Morning Prayer !

* Army of Angels !

A missionary on furlough told the following true story while visiting his home church in Michigan:

''While serving at a small field hospital in Africa, every two weeks I traveled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies.  This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point.  On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine, and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital.

Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured.  I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord.  I then traveled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident...

Two weeks later I repeated my journey.  Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated.  He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines.  He said, ''Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight.  We planned to kill you and take your money and the drugs.  But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that 26 armed guards surrounded you. '' At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite.

The young man pressed the point, however, and said, ''No, sir, I was not the only person to see the guards, my friends also saw them and we all counted them.  It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone.'' 

At this point in the sermon, one of the men in the congregation jumped to his feet and interrupted the missionary and asked if he could tell him the exact day this happened.  The missionary told the congregation the date, and the man who interrupted told him this story.

''On the night of your incident in Africa, it was morning here and I was preparing to go play golf.  I was about to putt when I felt the urge to pray for you.   In fact, the urging of the Lord was so strong; I called some men in this church to meet with me here in the sanctuary to pray for you.  (Would all of those men who met with me on that day stand up?)'' 

The men who had met together to pray that day stood up.  The missionary wasn't concerned  with who they were;  he was too busy counting how many men he saw.  There were 26 men.

This story is an incredible example of how the Spirit of the Lord moves in mysterious ways.  If you ever hear such prodding, go along with it. As the above true story clearly illustrates,  ''with God all things are  possible.''  More importantly, God hears and answers the prayers of the faithful!  God works in mysterious ways?

* A Prayer for a Family !

O dear Jesus, 
I humbly implore You to grant Your special graces to our family.

May our home be the shrine of peace, purity, love, labor and faith. 
I beg You, dear Jesus, to protect and bless all of us, 
absent and present, living and dead. 

O Mary, loving Mother of Jesus,and our Mother,

pray to Jesus for our family,

for all the families of the world,

to guard the cradle of the newborn,

the schools of the young and their vocations. 

Blessed Saint Joseph,

holy guardian of Jesus and Mary,

assist us by your prayers

in all the necessities of life.

Ask of Jesus that special grace

which He granted to you,

to watch over our home

at the pillow of the sick and the dying,

so that with Mary and with you,

heaven may find our family unbroken

in the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Holy Guardian Angels,
 be always with us, 
guide and protect us.

* Prayer for the Help of the Holy Spirit [St Anthony of Padua ]

O God, send forth your Holy Spirit into my heart that I may perceive, into my mind that I may remember, and into my soul that I may meditate. Inspire me to speak with piety, holiness, tenderness and mercy. Teach, guide and direct my thoughts and senses from beginning to end. May your grace ever help and correct me, and may I be strengthened now with wisdom from on high, for the sake of your infinite mercy. Amen. 

* Come Holy Spirit !

Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart with Your holy gifts. Let my weakness be penetrated with Your strength this very day that I may fulfill all the duties of my state conscientiously, that I may do what is right and just.

Let my charity be such as to offend no one, and hurt no one's feelings; so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me. 

Assist me, O Holy Spirit, in all my trials of life, enlighten me in my ignorance, advise me in my doubts, strengthen me in my weakness, help me in all my needs, protect me in temptations and console me in afflictions.

Graciously hear me, O Holy Spirit, and pour Your light into my heart, my soul, and my mind. Assist me to live a holy life and to grow in goodness and grace.

Amen. 

* Prayer to the Holy Spirit [ St. Augustine ]

Breathe into me, Holy Spirit, 
that my thoughts may all be holy. 

Move in me, Holy Spirit,

that my work, too, may be holy.

Attract my heart, Holy Spirit,

that I may love only what is holy.

Strengthen me, Holy Spirit,

that I may defend all that is holy.

Protect me, Holy Spirit,

that I may always be holy.

Thank you, God, for giving me another year of life.
Thank you for all the people who have remembered me today.

Thank you for all the experience of this past year;
for times of success which will always be happy memories,
for times of failure which reminded me of my own weakness and of my need for you,
for times of joy when the sun was shining,
for times of sadness which drove me to you.

Forgive me
for the hours I wasted,
for the chances I failed to take,
for the opportunities I missed this past year.
Help me in the days ahead to make this the best year yet,
and through it to bring good credit to myself,
happiness and pride to my loved ones,
and joy to you. Amen.
